Singer Mattress Cat is the new musical project from Martin Cooke, co-founder of 90s indie rock icons Gaslight Radio.

Subtropical Personality was written on the Lower East Side of New York City in 2024 after Cooke found an old acoustic guitar in his rented apartment. He then recorded the album in Melbourne, Australia, at Greenridge Studios in 2025. All tracks mixed by Cooke and sound engineer Anthony Cornish.

The first single from the album, Little Broken Moon, was mastered by Chris Gehringer in New Jersey at Sterling Sound (Nas, Florence & the Machine, Cardi B, Wu-Tang Clan).
