Ima Robot

BIOGRAPHY

Alex Ebert is a Grammy award-winning musician and Golden Globe-winning composer whose boundary-pushing work continues to shape contemporary music and culture. He first emerged as the frontman of the art rock band Ima Robot, where his sharp songwriting and kinetic stage presence quickly gained attention for its originality and boldness. Seeking new creative ground, Ebert went on to form Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, a sprawling collective known for its communal energy and genre-blending sound. Their debut album, Up From Below, introduced an expansive musical world inspired by folk traditions, gospel harmonies, and the cinematic textures of Ennio Morricone’s film scores. The album’s breakout single, “Home,” became a cultural touchstone, capturing a spirit of unity and joy that resonated across generations.

Ebert has also delved into composing for film. In 2014, he received the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Score for his work on the film All Is Lost, featuring Robert Redford. His compositions are known for their emotional depth and unconventional instrumentation, blending organic and electronic elements to create immersive soundscapes.

Whether performing on stage or composing for film, Alex Ebert remains a restless and visionary artist whose work defies categorization and invites audiences to imagine a more connected and inspired world.
