i give my friends flowers

BIOGRAPHY

i give my friends flowers was born out of a simple conviction: tomorrow isn't promised. The name came from a David Hockney interview. The songs came from life itself. Hurricane Helene, the "1,000-year flood" that destroyed homes and ecosystems across Asheville in the fall of 2024; years of caretaking for family members and watching friends pass through this life too soon; the loss of a young dog to cancer; the end of a decade-long relationship in the wreckage of that grief. Indie pop producer and artist Jacob Klein found a rescued piano in the aftermath and began writing. What started as an attempt to document a hard year became something else entirely.

Debut LP DOGSTAR 1 — named for Sirius, the Dog Star — is out now, led by singles "pollen," “sara’s not a name for dogs,” and “VOICES.” Non-linear, kaleidoscopic, and densely immersive, it moves between dream pop, alt-pop, electronic-soul, and lo-fi folk. About losing people to death, distance, and change, and choosing love anyway.

i give my friends flowers is an invitation. Made with friends, for friends. For anyone you love.
