chandol

BIOGRAPHY

If you achieved everything you’ve dreamed of and more by hiding yourself from the spotlight, would you ever be brave enough to become yourself again?

There’s something almost poetic about the return of Charley Yang as chandol–his new musical project named after his South Korean namesake. Mercurial, chandol’s debut record finds the 23-year-old multi-platinum songwriter wandering inside his own memory palace, navigating multiple past lives while trying to make peace with the person he has become. As a result, the debut project is a kaleidoscope of young adult life filled with sounds of indie pop, guitar rock, folk music, hyperpop and more–just a few musical influences Yang has picked up along the way.

Striking a perfect balance between exhilarating anthems and confessional songwriting, Mercurial is a meditation on disappointments, frustration, bliss, acceptance… And as Charley Yang as it can get. Working with studio legends Jeremie Inhaber and Aaron Sterling, Charley Yang managed to perfect an alt indie sound that puts chandol in the same lane as indie darlings like Malcolm Todd, Dominic Fike, clairo, Omar Apollo and so many more. For the first time ever, the young songwriter gets to be who he is to the fullest extent, free of masked-up constraints and free to embrace all aspects of his identity. With a debut album and his first headline as chandol on the horizon, Charley Yang is ready to break the mold and simply, to become.
