Babes In Canyon
BIOGRAPHY
“Immensely catchy.” - Under the Radar
“Luminous and harmony rich.” – Magnet
Eloquently blending synth-folk, alt-pop, club beats, and soaring vocal harmonies, Babes In Canyon crafts music that is eminently engaging and very much of the moment. Born of a spontaneous writing session during a blackout storm in the Pacific Northwest mountains, the band wandered naturally into the land of lyrics with an element of storytelling, and blending organic & electronic instrumentation with a twist. Songwriters and multi-instrumentalists Nathan and Sophia Hamer conjure up lush and astutely layered soundscapes, “looping keys, beats, and percussion effortlessly in an electric, raucous live performance” (Atwood Magazine).
Their debut full-length record The New Loud - engineered & mixed by Jerry Streeter (Brandi Carlile, The Lumineers, Vance Joy) and mastered by Matt Bishop (Two Door Cinema Club, The Beaches) - draws expertly from the palettes of alt-folk and darkwave pop. Around luminous vocals swirl neon-flecked echoes of 1980s radio, while meticulous touches of mandolin flit about the firelight. What began as an exploration of the outer edges of Americana has evolved into a genre-bending, enchanting artistic statement.
Fresh off their first US headlining tour in support of The New Loud, and with a spate of sold-out dates across the country, Babes In Canyon are stoking the flames with the release of their latest single Echo. Their time spent on the road allowed the band to further refine their sound, leaning
into the elements that made their live shows electric: heavy beats, layers upon layers of harmonies, and buzzy synth lines floating on an atmospheric bed of strings.
Babes In Canyon is an immersive listening experience. Put the record on and find yourself on a long drive away from the chaos of the everyday. Genre-defying, expertly arranged, and profoundly catchy, Babes In Canyon stand ready to soundtrack your adventures – both the grand and the everyday.
