GOV'T MULE CLINCHES TWO JAMMY AWARDS; RIAA AWARDS GOLD MUSIC VIDEO LONG-FORM FOR GOV"T MULE'S "THE DEEPEST END"

(New York, NY) -- The rock act Gov't Mule has long been considered a seminal band on the jamband scene, a community founded on the live music experience. Last night they were recognized for exactly that reason when the group was presented with two Jammy awards: Live Album of the Year and Live Performance of the Year.

Specifically, Gov't Mule was honored for their 2003 release on ATO Records, "The Deepest End," a bundled DVD and two CD package that includes 32 songs from the May 3, 2003 Saenger Theater concert, behind-the-scenes footage, and interviews with Gov't Mule and special guests.

The presentation took place at the Fourth Annual Jammy Awards, held at the Theatre at Madison Square Garden Tuesday evening, March 16. Artists on hand included Gov't Mule & Warren Haynes, Steve Winwood, Perry Farrell, Chris Robinson and many more.

During the evening the Recording Industry Association of America also recognized the band for achieving Gold status for their live DVD "The Deepest End." ATO Records Label Manager John Biondolillo made the behind-the-scenes presentation to the band and manager Stefani Scamardo.

Front man Warren Haynes also won the Song of the Year Award for "Old Before My Time" by the Allman Brothers Band - which he co-wrote and produced.

Haynes was asked by long time friends the Dave Matthews Band, who could not attend the event, to accept the Live DVD of the Year Award on their behalf. The band won for their historic "Central Park Concert" at which Haynes was the sole guest musician.

In all, Gov't Mule took home the most Jammys with two awards, with Haynes taking home a total of three Jammys for his work with Gov't Mule and the Allman Brothers Band.

Gov't Mule had more than awards in hand over the course of the evening, however, as the band performed a powerful rendition of its fan-favorite "Blind Man In The Dark." They were then joined by Chris Robinson on Neil Young's "Southern Man" followed by the a rendition of the Black Crowes classic "Sometimes Salvation," featuring Robinson and former bandmates Rich Robinson and Eddie Harsch. Former Black Crowes bassist Andy Hess is currently Gov't Mule's bassist. The collaboration was the first time since the Black Crowes disbanded that these musicians had appeared together on stage.

Haynes later joined recent Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee and Lifetime Achievement Jammy winner Steve Winwood on Traffic's "Low Spark of High Heeled Boys" and the Spencer Davis Group's "Gimme Some Lovin'" to close out the night.

"I grew up listening to Steve Winwood," said Haynes. "He's one of my heroes. It was great bringing the Crowes together and it was an honor to be a part of the Jammys."

Comprised of original members Warren Haynes (guitar, vocals) and Matt Abts (drums) along with Danny Louis and bassist Andy Hess, the group continues to blow minds, while breaking new musical ground.

The band is currently in the studio recording the first Gov't Mule studio album since the addition of Louis and Hess as permanent band members. This will also be the first release since the extensive guest-gathering Deep End series and the first proper band-based recorded effort since founding bassist Allen Woody passed away August 26, 2000.

The new recording is scheduled for an autumn release on ATO Records.

Gov't Mule continues to tour in support of "The Deepest End," concentrating on the west and south in April, with a fast-approaching appearance at the Bonnaroo Music Festival in June.
