WARREN HAYNES SITS IN AS SOLE GUEST WITH DAVE MATTHEWS BAND AT CENTRAL PARK

(New York, NY) -- There were any number of excellent guest musicians Dave Matthews Band could have jammed with at Central Park last night. But there was only one that did: Warren Haynes.

Haynes, who was recently named one of the top 25 guitarists of all time by Rolling Stone, joined the Dave Matthews Band on Neil Young's "Cortez The Killer" and the DMB originl "Jimi Thing.". And, just as he always does, he brought something exceptional to an already special stage.

"I've been sitting in with DMB since the very first time they came to NYC when they played The Wetlands," says Haynes. "There was less than 100 people at that show. The fact that we go back twelve years before anyone knew Dave Matthews Band and to be apart of something so historic - it's pretty amazing."

Still, it was just one more example of the non-stop work ethic that is already turning Haynes into something of a living legend. He's not only a vital member of three bands -- Gov't Mule, the Allman Brothers Band, and Phil Lesh & Friends - but he spends his spare time accepting constant invitations to jam and inviting others to jam with him.

In his extraordinary career, Haynes has collaborated with countless legendary musicians. In just the last few years, he has tirelessly celebrated his friend and bandmate Allen Woody with the Deep End series of concerts, CDs and DVDs.

ATO Records will release the latest and last of these projects, The Deepest End, on Tuesday, October 7, 2003. The bundled DVD and two-CD package will include 32 songs from the May 3, 2003, Saenger Theatre concert, behind-the-scenes footage, and interviews with Gov't Mule and special guests.

Such historic events have yielded a laundry list of relationships that will outlast the project's culmination, including world-class players like Flea, Jack Bruce, Larry Graham, and DMB's own Stefan Lessard.

But what is it about Haynes that makes this musicians' musician so appealing? Clearly he possesses something that few other musician can deliver.

"People turn out for Warren because everyone has absolute confidence that if he is involved, the music is going to be great," says Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio, who has performed alongside Haynes on many occasions. "He is the only player of our generation who has his history completely together; and it is clear the minute you play with him. He is just the sickest guitarist and the most together guy you can share a stage with."

Gov't Mule will perform on Late Night with Conan O'Brien, Wednesday, October 8.
