Warren Haynes
"Live at Bonnaroo"
ATO Records
It's not that Warren Haynes is a bad singer, but the reason you
listen
to him is to hear how one man with a six-string guitar can sound like a
symphony.
This disc is the perfect platform for that, since Haynes is performing
solo - unusual for a guy's who's spread thin dividing his time between
the Allman Brothers Band, The Dead and Gov't Mule.
The signature guitar sound of "Live at Bonnaroo" is
Haynes' mixture of
strummed rhythms and finger-picked leads. He's mostly a student of
standard Southern rock vocals, but there is one song where he's
incredible:his cover of U2's "One." His ultra-passionate version
is
easily the equal of the original, as he pushes his voice to the point
that he makes you believe he's the second coming of Bono.
