TIGERCITY
Formed in Northampton, MA, in the fall of 2004 by Bill Gillim
(Vocals, Guitar) and Joel Ford (Bass, Keys, Vocals), Tigercity
is a band whose material unabashedly reflects its influences; which
range from The Police, Daft Punk, and Roxy Music, to classic Prince
and Off The Wall-era Michael Jackson.
In the Summer of 2005 they picked up and moved to Brooklyn, and
after a few months – with the help of friend/producer Al
Carlson (Brazilian Girls) – the band had themselves a DIY
bedroom EP, one that merited their inclusion on the VICE Magazine
Vol. 1 CD/DVD sampler.
Yet it wasn’t until the early 2006 induction of guitarist
Andrew Brady and drummer Aynsley Powell that Tigercity began to
truly hit their stride. The additions allowed Tigercity to reach
its potential, fleshing out the sound and providing added input
in the songwriting process, effectively upping the creative anti.
The combination of Gillim’s chilling falsetto and the now
air tight rhythm section has turned Tigercity’s live show
into an instant dance party.
In the past months, the band has shared the stage with everyone
from M.I.A. and Jamie Lidell to David Cross and Serena Maneesh.
Their growing momentum has earned them a spot on Chicago’s
Tomorrow Never Knows Festival along side the likes of Dr. Dog and
The Ponys, a trip to Miami to play a two-year anniversary celebration
for the weekly party “Off The Radar”, and an Austin,
TX, debut at this year’s SXSW. At home in New York and Brooklyn,
Tigercity have sold out nearly every show they’ve played
since late 2006.
When not on the road, Tigercity will be in the studio, recording
a five-song EP, due out later this Summer.
