The Fashion

The story of The Fashion begins long before the release of their debut album in 2003.  Singer Jakob Printzlau, guitarist, Anders Find Axelsen, and bassist, Christian Lignell Bækholm, have played together since 1995.  The three first met in the underground music scene of their hometown Svendborg, Denmark.  Under various names, they moved toward a musical style that incorporated influences from post punk and alternative rock that in the following years would encourage them to experiment further.  Soon after adding drummer, Jakob Ankær Johansen, and Christoffer Griebel on keyboards they began to call themselves The Fashion and signed with SonyBMG Denmark in early 2003.

In September 2003 the album “Rock Rock Kiss Kiss Combo” was released in Denmark. It featured the hits “Lets Go Dancing”, and “Roller Disco Inferno” and gained The Fashion huge airplay across Danish radio, MTV Fresh Pick of the Week and a staggeringly good review in Rolling Stone by David Fricke.  Shortly after the release of the debut album, Christoffer Griebel decided to leave the group and The Fashion made the decision to stick with four members.

By the start of 2006 The Fashion began to work on their self titled, sophomore album.  Featuring the songs “Solo Impala (Take The Money and Run)” and “Like Knives,” the album is a melting pot of styles that warrants comparisons to The Rapture, Beastie Boys, Head Automatica, and LCD Soundsystem.

The visual medium is also an integral piece of the band’s chemistry.  In addition to being the singer, Jakob Printzlau is an active visual artist and directs all the bands videos and designs their artwork and merchandise. The Fashion look to broaden their scope in North America with an alternative sound that simultaneously sounds like everything and nothing you have ever heard.  Their video for “Solo Impala (Take The Money and Run) debuted on MTVU this winter and made its US film festival premiere at SXSW.

Even before their album release hit US shores in the spring of 2008, The Fashion were already making noise amongst America’s major music tastemakers.  David Fricke of Rolling Stone raves “There’s something hoppin’ in the state of Denmark; the high velocity and New Wave-guitar sunshine of this Copenhagen band.”  He continues, “with nostalgic burps of lava-bubble synth and the high sharp vocal brass of Jakob Printzlau, is not afraid to sing about how great rock & roll used to be in order to get his New Wave rolling.”    The Fashion made their North American debut at SXSW when they hit the stage at the FADER party and have already sold out shows in New York.

The Fashion’s self-titled album is now available everywhere.  For fans in the US, The Fashion are set to do their first North American tour when they open up for Alkaline Trio starting June 13 in Tulsa, OK.  For more information, tour dates, news, etc. please visit http://myspace.com/thefashiondk.
